Man Forever

Man Forever

This debut LP was very limited and came out on the now defunct label St. Ives. They were a vinyl and digital only label run by the folks at Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguwar. Back in probably 2008 or so – Ben Swanson contacted me and said he wanted to release a solo drum album. I quickly agreed but I had no idea what to do. Then I had the good fortune to attend a performance of Metal Machine Music transcribed by Ulrich Krieger at the Miller Theater by the group Fireworks Ensemble. My oldest friend, Brian Coughlin, leads the group and recommended that I attend. To be honest – I almost didn’t. . .but something drew me to the show. It wasn’t a sold out audience, but while I read the program notes and listened to the incredible performance, I remembered a discussion I’d had with drummer Brian Chase about tuning drums to specific pitches using just intonation. In the audience the idea for the solo album came to me. . .I’d make a kind of Metal Machine Music for drums – utilizing some of the same techniques Lou Reed had used when recording his MMM – tape speed manipulation, multitracking and tuning choices. The following weekend I recorded the album with Shahin Motia and Barry London. Richard Hoffman added some great bass playing. Brian Chase tuned my drums for me. You can buy the digital files here.

Every cover is different – designed by Wolfy. Hand screened by Wolfy and myself.

This album also came out on CD in Japan – on Moorworks. I think it was released as Kid Millions – Man Forever.
